Think outside the box

I have lots of friends and family who live many hundreds or even thousands of miles away from me, which makes birthdays and Christmas a bit of a logistical nightmare. Not only do you have to think of a gift that they’d really like, but you have to bear in mind that this gift is going to end up getting posted either across the country or across the Atlantic. Even then my work isn’t done, as I have to remember to actually take the parcel with me the next time I go to the post office, and not just leave it sitting sadly by the door…

There are certain things that have become staple gifts for my far-off friends. Books, DVDs and CDs are all nice and easy to wrap, and not too heavy when it comes to postage costs. Not very inspiring though. Until I decided to make my own DVD packaging!

You know how the cover of every DVD has some picture of the main star or some symbolic scene from the movie? Plus reviewers'comments and a synopsis of the film itself on the back? Well, now I make that myself, and wrap them round the DVD box instead of wrapping paper. It gives me the chance to be a bit creative when it comes to the front cover picture, and to become the movie reviewer I’ve always wanted to be when writing the synopsis and providing my own comments. My friends who have received one of my home-made covers have loved them, and have asked me if I can make more for their existing DVD collection! Perhaps I’ve discovered a gap in the market…
