Spring cleaning

Spring cleaning time has come around awfully quickly, hasn’t it? To be honest I give the house a really thorough clean every week so spring cleaning time is just like an ordinary weekend to me. The only difference between any ordinary Sunday and this Sunday, is that I can use the phrase “spring cleaning” to get the kids involved!
It can be a bit of a nightmare trying to persuade kids to pick up their room, but there are ways to turn cleaning chores into a really good game. I quite often hide little hand-made presents in their room, somewhere under the mess, so that they have to tidy the jumble sale on their floors to find it. My daughter has been bugging me for weeks to be allowed to paint over the “babyish” flowers she has stencilled on her wall and to be allowed to have something a bit more “goth”. So, I’ve told her that if I’m happy with how tidy her room is, we’ll go to the craft shop together and pick out a new stencil to decorate the border on her wall. If I left it to her alone, it would probably be black skulls or daggers dripping with blood. I’m hoping it’s just a phase…
My son is much easier to bribe. Home-made fudge, that he helped me make, suddenly disappeared from the kitchen after they had cooled, and they are now hidden, in boxes, in the darkest, messiest corners of his room. If only all the world’s problems could be solved with the promise of some sugary snacks!
